Expanded summary[]

The episode starts with Peep enjoying his can. Quack arrives and Peep tells him it's the perfect house as it keeps him warm and it's round like him. Quack looks around the can and tells Peep it's not perfect so he asks him why. Quack says it doesn't have a door to keep out thunder, bright lights and snakes. Peep looks at his can and thinks Quack is right, so he asks him where he could find a door. Quack leaves as he and the fish are decorating hats. Peep then goes to find a door.

While Peep is searching, he tells Beaver Boy about it. Beaver Boy suggests water, but Peep doesn't think Chirp would visit him if he had a water door. Beaver Boy goes to help Peep look for a door. While doing that, they find Squeak who after looking at the can, agrees he needs a door. She suggests a round rock. After Beaver Boy puts the rock into place, Peep tries to get past it, but he can't. Beaver Boy says they need something lighter so he and Peep go to Nellie's home for a garbage can lid. After Peep tells Nellie about it, she says they can take it. When Beaver boy puts the lid in front of the can, he and Peep realize that they can see the door, but not the can.

Peep and Beaver Boy go to Chirp's bush and tell her that they are looking for a door. Chirp suggests an orange leaf, so they try it. The leaf fits, but the wind blows it away. Peep, Chirp and Beaver Boy go to Raccoon and tell him about it and what they learned. Raccoon has just the thing, an orange lid. They put it on Peep's can, and Beaver Boy puts mud on it so it won't fall off. Quack comes back with his hat decorated. After trying the new door, Peep says it's perfect. After Chirp and Beaver Boy leave, Quack tells Peep that the door has to go. Quack removes the mud making the lid fall off. Peep realizes his can was perfect after all. Quack then tells Peep they need a judge for a hat contest so Peep goes with him. The episode ends with the narrator saying sometimes you need a door, and sometimes you don't. What you always need are friends, even the ones with crazy hats.
